Bounce houses are a popular item at children’s birthday parties. They bring fun, excitement and entertainment on a very special day. While this “big toy” seems to present limitless opportunities for having fun and creating memories, it may not be as safe as you might think. Studies indicate that 43.7% of bounce house injuries occur at a recreational facility whereas 37.5% occur at home.
The majority of bounce house injuries are sustained by children aged 5 or younger.Children can be seriously injured when they fall inside or outside of a bounce house or collide with other children. The combination of a crowded bounce house, and simply landing wrong can make a favorite party amusement a house of horrors. While manufacturer’s instruction pamphlets often warn against overloading bounce houses or allowing young children to bounce with older ones, these directions are often disregarded.
Celebrating social functions should be fun, not terrifying, especially when it comes to our children’s safety. Make sure that there’s adult supervision at all times, and don’t forget to read the manual to ensure that no one is abusing bounce house regulations.
