Parvey & Cavenago Associate Attorney Profile

Carlos J. Cavenago, III was born and raised in Southwest Florida. He graduated from Bishop Verot High School in 1996. He graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in criminal justice with an emphasis in legal studies, the first person in the school’s history to be granted that distinction.

While attending law school at St. Thomas University in Miami, he worked at a criminal defense law firm. The highlight of his law school experience came when he interned for a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District Court, West Palm Beach Division. Carlos assisted writing briefs during a two week jury trial pertaining to a trade secrets violation. To this day he maintains a relationship with the Judge he served and values their friendship. Carlos graduated law school on the Dean’s List of academic achievement.

Carlos passed the bar exam in 2004, after which he started working as a prosecutor for the State Attorney’s office for the 20th Judicial Circuit in Fort Myers. His first jury trial was a DUI case involving serious bodily injury. Speaking to the victims of the accident and gaining their trust for such an important time in their life gave Carlos a strong sense of purpose. He won that trial and prosecuted many other crimes. He was eventually transferred to the domestic violence unit.

While a prosecutor, Carlos was assigned a four count voyeurism case. A man was secretly video-taping his girlfriend’s daughter in the shower. On the first day of trial, the defendant pled guilty to all counts. The victim asked Carlos to refer her to a civil lawyer for a violation of privacy suit. He studied lawyers’ resumes and communicated with local legal professionals. One name kept coming up – Allan Parvey. He met with Mr. Parvey and spoke to him about the evidence and handling the case. Mr. Parvey was successful in securing a confidential settlement.

After working on that case together, they realized that they would work well as a team. Carlos is passionate about helping victims of negligence seek justice, the first duty of society. In order to maintain our society we must always protect justice. Carlos is a member of the Florida Justice Association, past member of the Calusa Inns of Court, Honorable Peter T. Fay Inn of Court and the Lee County Bar Association. Over the years he has taught several law courses at Florida Gulf Coast University. He is continually volunteering his time at Ave Maria School of Law as a judge for their moot court competition and mock trial judge for the Lee County mock trial program. In 2011, Carlos was selected by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star within his profession, a distinction which continued in 2012 and 2013.

As this community has given so much to Carlos, he is always interested in ways to give back to our community. He serves on the board of directors for the FGCU Alumni Association and is currently serving as chairman of the board. He is active with the Rotary Club of downtown Fort Myers. The American Cancer Society is near and dear to his heart and he and his wife have hosted events for that very worthy cause. As an avid angler he is a member and contributor to the Coastal Conservation Association, an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the environment.
